Katie Recollects: Wizard Within at Southern China Book Fair
First independent booth at an international book fair
Last August, Wizard Within held our very first independent booth at an international book fair!
Thanks to the event organisers and the Selangor Library (PPAS), our producer, Pei Yen, and creative team, Jessica, Yi Pei, and Ching Voon, were able to attend the Southern China Book Fair as exhibitors and simultaneously conduct several panels!
The Southern China Book Fair, held in Guangzhou, is a cornerstone event for publishing houses and literary professionals to convene, discuss rights, and broaden the horizons for the future of book-making. This year’s edition collated over 1500 publishing organisations and we are thrilled to be amongst the global line-up!
Across the five-day event, we met up with many new and familiar faces at our booth and the Selangor Pavilion. We also had the opportunity to conduct a panel, entailing our journey as an independent publisher.
The kids especially enjoyed our “Knockety-Knockety Knock” interactive storytelling session where they joined our team on stage to knock on the digital doors and meet Bonnie’s neighbours!
It was an incredible honour to be able to introduce, Katie, Wizard, and Molly to so many industry players and international audiences, and we definitely look forward to returning to Guangzhou!
Aside from the book fair, our team also had the opportunity to visit the different libraries in the vibrant city and take inspiration from the local children’s publishing scene. Notably, we visited Newpage Bookstore that stocks our books in Guangzhou! It was surreal to see our works in another country and we hope to continue expanding our publications as well as reach to meet our audiences in every corner of the world.
