Pei Yen and Yi Pei made a trip all the way to Shanghai to attend the 11th edition of the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair! From 15th to 17th November 2024, Wizard Within represented Malaysia at the “Asia Pacific New Entry Lounge” amongst five other publishing houses.
A total of 497 exhibitors were featured throughout the weekend where Pei Yen and Yi Pei were able to connect and draw inspiration from other global publishing stakeholders. The booth allowed numerous interested agents and customers to engage with our products and positive discussions were facilitated by Pei Yen. This is Wizard Within’s first time boothing at an international stage and we are warmed by the support from our publishing community and customers!
An interesting highlight from CCBF lies in its “Illustrators Survival Corner” that features workshops and masterclasses specifically aimed to spark growth and conversation for illustrators. Professional illustrators and editors were in attendance and Yi Pei had the amazing opportunity to introduce Katie and Molly Cheeks to various editors including one from Anorak Magazine!
Yi Pei noted that the talk provided insightful information on how alternative topics can be explored in children’s books to allow children to shape their own understandings on abstract ideas.
Another notable highlight is the Jon Klassen talk titled, “Award Winners’ Series — Picture Books and the Art of Omission.” Klassen shared his technique and process in order to create depth in his stories and open the conversation to kids on moral judgement through approachable and well-meaning characters.
Wizard Within is always looking for inspiration on how to deliver better content to our readers and we are thrilled to have the chance to learn from big names in the industry.
