9 Things To Pack For A Family Picnic

Do you want to have a campout with your family like the one in Mum! Dad!! Where are You? Even if you haven’t been camping before, it’s easy to plan a family trip in nature. If you don’t want to stay overnight, you can also plan a family picnic.

A family picnic

For a family picnic, some of the places in this post (link to 5 places to enjoy nature) might be good. If you’re going to a place with a picnic area, there may already be picnic tables for you to use. If there aren’t picnic tables, bring a picnic blanket to put on the ground.

Use this list to pack your picnic basket:

  • Picnic blanket
  • Napkins
  • Plates and cups
  • A cooler or ice packs to keep food fresh
  • Fruit that isn’t messy, like apples
  • Your favourite sandwiches
  • Your favourite desserts
  • Mosquito repellent spray
  • Outdoor toys and games

An overnight campout

An overnight campout takes a bit more planning. This is a great activity to do on a long weekend. A tent and sleeping bags are affordable, or if you’re not sure you want to make camping a regular activity, many campgrounds also offer tent rental. You can find out about some recommended campgrounds in Malaysia here.

Having a campfire

In Mum! Dad!! Where are you? the family makes a campfire. Campfires are fun, but they are not always safe or allowed. Check with the campground before making a campfire and follow safety precautions.

Learn everything you need to know about building a campfire here. If you’re not allowed to build a campfire, the campsite may have barbeques. That gives you another idea for picnic food — you can grill your lunch or dinner!

Enjoy your family campout! If you prefer to stay home, check out our Sleepover Adventure indoor campout.
